Michael, son of Euthymios, magistros, vestes and judge of Thrakesion. Seal (Lead, 25 mm, 8.85 g, 12 h), mid 11th century. M-X/A Nimbate facing bust of St. Michael, holding trefoil scepter in his right hand and globe in his left. Rev. +KЄR,Θ, / MIXAHΛ / MAΓICTPω / RЄCT, S KPIT, / TωN ΘPAKH/C[Iω]N Tω T૪ / [ЄVΘ]VMI૪ in seven lines. Cheynet/Theodoridis 80. DO Seals III 2.18. Somewhat weak and with some flan faults, otherwise, very fine.

In circa 1050, Michael and his brother Nikephoros, sons of Euthymios, attempted a coup against the emperor Constantine IX. The usurpation failed, but only Nikephoros was condemned and exiled (Skylitzes, 471). Both Michael and Nikephoros previously served as judges of the Thrakesion theme in their civil careers, as we know from the surviving seals of Michael, and from documents in the case of his brother
